American sprinter Noah Lyles clinched the Olympic men’s 100m title by a mere five-thousandths of a second, narrowly defeating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in a thrilling photo finish at Paris 2024.<\/p>\n
Lyles surged past his competitors in the latter half of the race to secure victory with a personal best time of 9.79 seconds. Thompson, who had led for most of the race, finished with the same time, but Lyles’ strong finish secured his win as he began his quest for four potential gold medals at the Games.<\/p>\n
Fred Kerley of the United States, a former world champion, claimed bronze with a time of 9.81 seconds, just ahead of South Africa’s Akani Simbine.<\/p>\n
The final, held at Stade de France amidst a charged atmosphere and dramatic music, saw all eight finalists finish within 0.12 seconds of Lyles in a closely contested race.<\/p>\n
The competition was so fierce that Italy’s defending champion, Lamont Marcell Jacobs, missed out on the medals, while another Jamaican rising star, Oblique Seville, finished last with a time of 9.91 seconds.<\/p>\n
Lyles, known for excelling on the sport’s biggest stages and a triple gold medalist at last year’s World Championships, celebrated enthusiastically after the official result was confirmed.
