As Political faction prepares for the upcoming general elections in 2025-2026, the Electoral Commission is set to initiate the demarcation of electoral areas and the reorganization of polling stations starting in August 2024.<\/p>\n
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, emphasized the commission’s demarcation focus during a stakeholders meeting in Kampala. This initiative will primarily target the newly established administrative units such as parishes, towns, and sub-counties following the 2020-2021 general elections.<\/p>\n
“We are proceeding with the demarcation exercise, which will delineate electoral areas for Local Government Councils, taking into account factors such as communication, geography, and population density. The restructuring of polling stations aims to ensure manageable voter turnout, accessibility, and sufficient space,” explained Byabakama.<\/p>\n
With election fervor intensifying nationwide, Byabakama urged stakeholders to mobilize and educate the public on their roles in the electoral process, stressing the importance of peace, unity, and tolerance to ensure free and fair elections.<\/p>\n
“Elections are a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders, requiring continuous support and cooperation for the Commission to effectively fulfill its constitutional mandate,” he emphasized.<\/p>\n
Various political factions and candidates are already mobilizing their support base, formulating strategies for the upcoming campaigns, and vying for public endorsement. This election frenzy has permeated discussions in social gatherings and media platforms.<\/p>\n
According to the revised electoral roadmap the nominations are scheduled from September 17, 2023 to October 3, 2025 for all elective positions and general polls for the Presidential, Local governments and parliamentary positions are dated January 12 till February 9, 2026.<\/p>\n
