The Ministry of Health has responded to the pleas of unemployed healthcare workers by recruiting 1144 individuals out of the 7000 who submitted applications online.
\nDuring a press conference at the Uganda Media Center on June 25, Dr. Pius Okong, Chairman of the Health Service Commission, advised unemployed healthcare workers to be cautious of misleading advertisements on social media platforms. He urged them to verify all job postings on the Ministry of Health website.
\nDr. Okong emphasized that the traditional paper application process has been phased out in favor of online applications and interviews to prevent corruption and overcrowding at the commission’s offices. For those without internet access, he recommended seeking assistance at local resource centers free of charge.
\n“We always clearly state in our advertisements that our job application services are provided free of charge. If you come across any job postings, please verify their authenticity on our website,”he emphasized.
\nThe recruitment process includes 100 nurses and midwives, 70 medical specialists (including consultants), 70 medical officers, 200 diploma nurses, 50 enrolled midwives, and 70 nurses. These new recruits are expected to commence their duties by September, as explained by Dr. Mary Teopista Wenene, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission.
\nDr. Wenene specified that the recruited healthcare workers will be stationed at regional referral hospitals, particularly those that have undergone recent upgrades, such as Entebbe and Kayunga referral hospitals.
