The government of Uganda is working on modalities to ban the importation of fuel motorcycles for electric motorcycles, Science and Technology Minister Dr.Monica Musenero has said.<\/p>\n

Musenero said Uganda has advanced in science for solutions to society challenges and was right on track with electric cars and motorcycles as the world embraces a shift from petroleum to environmentally friendly sources of energy.<\/p>\n

She said the country was locally producing small electric requirements for motor vehicles such as batteries and related components and once production is sufficient to demand, the importation of motorcycles using petrol or diesel but electricity.<\/p>\n

Musenero was appearing on Baba TV\u2019s HOT CUP@8 segment of the morning show GANGAMUKA hosted by PlusNews Editor Adam Kungu.<\/p>\n

Adam Kungu had asked the Minister whether the country was working on other science-based solutions to the rising cost of living as the country celebrates the launch of her first satellite into the space.<\/p>\n

Ugandan students Bonny Omara 35, Edgar Mujuni 31 and Derrick Tebuseke \u00a029 built the historic PearlAfricaSat \u2013 1 that was expected to get to the destiny space station and connect to the orbit in a fortnight. This is the first time Uganda is successfully sending a satellite into space and the development has been widely celebrated.<\/p>\n

The manufacturing of electric cars and motorcycles has been hailed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a solution to the ever rising cost of fuel leading to high commodity prices.<\/p>\n

A car manufacturing plant in Mutai village in Jinja has started production.<\/p>\n

Musenero said many developments in science and technology are being undertaken in the science world locally before she asked Ugandans to be positive and support local efforts to launch the country into science and technology giants.<\/p>\n

When Kungu pressed harder for the cost of the satellite now in space and how much the country would need for the second one yet to be flagged off,Musenero remained none \u2013 committal preferring that the finance handlers would provide a full report at a time in future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
