{"id":4940,"date":"2022-09-24T15:06:28","date_gmt":"2022-09-24T15:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/?p=4940"},"modified":"2022-09-24T15:44:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-24T15:44:49","slug":"public-private-sector-global-leaders-call-for-a-unified-voice-for-peace-as-an-institution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/2022\/09\/24\/public-private-sector-global-leaders-call-for-a-unified-voice-for-peace-as-an-institution\/","title":{"rendered":"Public &amp; Private Sector Global Leaders Call for a Unified Voice for Peace as an Institution\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On September 24th, a peace event was held to discuss the development of sustainable peace in the Great Hall of Makerere, Uganda.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 1894 people, including lawyers, religious people, teachers, youth, and journalists, attended the event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main event has been held simultaneously around the world since the 8th anniversary of the HWPL 9,18 Peace Conference held at the HWPL headquarters on September 18th.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 8th anniversary of the HWPL 9\/18 Peace Conference was held under the theme of \u2018Institutional Peace: The Foundation of Sustainable Development\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 6,000 people from 146 countries, including Uganda, have participated in the event so far, amidst the Corona 19 pandemic and another threat from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This was to ensure peace through institutionalization. It was held for the purpose of reaffirming the importance of sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"739\" data-id=\"4948\" src=\"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/0DBF77F1-5890-4AF4-89D4-8CD6006041F9.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4948\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/0DBF77F1-5890-4AF4-89D4-8CD6006041F9.jpeg 1080w, https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/0DBF77F1-5890-4AF4-89D4-8CD6006041F9-300x205.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/0DBF77F1-5890-4AF4-89D4-8CD6006041F9-1024x701.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/smlnews.ug\/Luganda\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/0DBF77F1-5890-4AF4-89D4-8CD6006041F9-768x526.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since September 18th in 2014 when the peace summit was held for the first time, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace NGO under the UN ECOSOC, has called for solidarity for peacebuilding at the global level through collective actions with various actors including heads of state, ministers, law makers, religious leaders, educators, youth and women leaders, and reporters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This annual summit shares peace activities and achievements in cooperation with governments and civil society around the world every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the cause of peacebuilding at the global level, Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL said, \u201cThe global village has suffered from the unexpected COVID-19 that has hit every country. People are not alone in the midst of difficulties. We live in the same global village, and we are neighbors and families. Each one of us is the one who are obliged to make our world a better place to live. And shouldn&#8217;t we pass on our good world to our descendants?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>H.E. Marinus Bee, the chairperson of the National Assembly of Suriname, expressed his willingness to establish peace at the legislative level by saying, \u201cThe role of parliaments in building peace and preventing conflict is crucial.\u201d He added, \u201cIn collaboration with HWPL the National Assembly would like to establish a framework of cooperation in achieving cessation of war and spread a culture of peace through activities to raise awareness of peace and encourage policies and programs regarding peace education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"576\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Octavia Alfred, Minister for Education, Human Resource Planning, Vocational Training and Nation Excellence of Dominica, said that HWPL\u2019s peace education was introduced to the national school curriculum in Dominica as it was \u201cintegrated into Social Studies, and also as a stand-alone.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the reason to develop the educational source into the civics curriculum in the country, she said that the HWPL peace curriculum is helpful \u201cin addressing the challenges of \u2026 not just students, but even what they take home to their friends and their parents, and also out teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahendra Das, the Temple President of Sri Sri Radha Madhava Mandir of the Philippines, presented an institutional approach to interreligious dialogue in terms of the role of religion in contributing to peace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He suggested that regularizing international exchanges and programs to prevent conflicts based on religious misunderstanding can be a starting point for a foundation of peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Chung Young-min, General Director of the IPYG emphasized the role of youth as the main player of international action for peace by saying that education programs for 1,500 global youth in 59 countries are hosted to \u201cprotect the basic rights of youth around the world so that everyone can live a happy life without being left behind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Sheikh Fayswal Buyonje, Ahamadiyya Muslim Community Officer in charge Annual Peace Symposia mentioned on his speech that the role of religion is to work in isolation in achievement of peace , hwpl is doing the work of re-uniting Africa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main goal of peace as an institution that HWPL suggested is to weave the values of peace into our social fabric, allowing mutual respect, harmony, cooperation, and co-prosperity to become part of our institutions as the norms and cultures of each society, domestic law, and international law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The principle of peace is contained in the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), which was drafted with the participation of international law experts from 15 countries and proclaimed by HWPL in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 10 articles and 38 clauses of the DPCW underscore conflict prevention and resolution, gradual reduction of armament and the transition to instruments for daily lives, mutual respect and conflict resolution of religious and ethnic groups, and spreading a culture of peace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DPCW urges all actors in the global community including international organizations, governments, non-governmental organizations, and civic groups to play respective roles in institutionalizing peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
