THE Member of Parliament for people with disabilities Sophia Nalule Juuko has asked government to set standard operating procedures to cater for the people with disabilities during this period of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Nalule people with disabilities should be allowed to use bodabodas for them to be able to move and look for what to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She made remarks on Tuesday while commissioning food items donated by Light the World for PWDs in Wakiso district at the PWDs offices at Wakiso district head quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGovernment banned the use of boda bodas in the country but PWDs find it very difficult to move since they find it a bit convenient to move on motor cycles and I want to appeal to our good government to allow us use boda boda so that we can move as we look for food during this COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d said Nalule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nalule however, expressed her dismay saying people with disabilities did not get government food that was distributed in Kampala and Wakiso districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She further pointed out that PWDs cannot practice social distancing since some of them have got helpers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She proposed that all RDCs in the country should include PWDs on their districts task forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wakiso district LC5 chair man Matia Lwanga Bwanika said COVID-19 came abruptly and there are signs showing that it\u2019s going to stay for long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was from this point that Bwanika called upon all stake holders in the district to come up and donate food to the vulnerable people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chairman hailed the donors, Light for the world, for donating food for the PWDs in the district and assured them that the food items will be given to the intended people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ambrose Murangira from Light for the World who is in charge of disability Inclusion, said people with disabilities do suffer a lot during this pandemic and it\u2019s the reason why they donated to them food items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Murangira, 500 people are expected to get food out of the ten tons of beans and maize flour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
