Due to Prolonged dry spell, many families in Kaabong are starving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda Redcross conducted assessment and identified needs of the people who settled for assistance in form of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With support from Belgian RedCross Flanders, Uganda RedCross has supported 950 families with Cash support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a way of ensuring proper dignity and choice, we chose to give cash assistance so that families can buy food of their choice. Each family has recieved 100,000\/ (cash) ” Says Irene Nakasiita- Uganda Redcross Spokesperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Post bank was contracted to deliver physical cash because many people do not have mobile phones.
We also wanted to avoid anomalies that come with mobile money transfers such as wrong recieptients, system break down among others” Nakasiita added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sub-counties supported include Loyoro, Kaabong East and Lodiko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda RedCross together with the District Disaster Management Committee identified the most needy groups of people (lactating mothers, the elderly, orphans & child headed homes, pregnant mothers, among others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meri Jino Born, LC5 Chairman appreciated the Redcross and says this is the first of the kind they have experienced in the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This has come in very timely since this year we have not had any harvests. We will monitor families to ensure that they use the money in the best way possible. Many people are hungry and Starving.
