The Kasubi Tombs are the burial site of four of Buganda’s Kabakas including Muteesa I, Mwanga II, Daudi Chwa II and Sir. Edward Muteesa II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tombs that were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 were destroyed by a fire in 2010 with another incident in 2013. This is the 3rd fire at the site in a decade. In 2010, the Tombs were included on the list of World Heritage Sites in danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2010 fire occurred amidst tensions between the Uganda Government and Buganda Kingdom specifically in light of the 2009 riots. A commission of inquiry was set up to investigate the cause of the fire but a decade later, the report has never been made public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
