Court of Appeal has nullified James Akena’s election as Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president and ordered for a fresh election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three justices of the court led by Irene Mulyagonja have further warned the party that it’s credibility will continue to be in doubt if its leadership is not in line with provisions of the constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akena ran to the high court seeking to overturn a High Court decision declaring his election as UPC President in 2015 a nullity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile a month ago, UPC convened a delegates conference in which James Akena was declared party president and also communicated the party’s position of not fronting a presidential candidate in the forth coming 2021 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However in light of today’s court decision, Akena is not UPC president and also one of the party’s members Dan Okello has come forward to declare his ambitions to contest for the highest office in the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
