Kenya’s Victoria Rubadiri is the 2020 winner of the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award, making her the sixth person to win the prestigious award since its inception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Komla Dumor Award is a journalism award sponsored by the BBC established in honour of Komla Dumor, an exceptional Ghanaian broadcaster and presenter for BBC news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubadiri is a presenter with Citizen TV in Kenya, where she hosts the channel\u2019s prime-time shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As its a norm, Rubadiri will begin her three-month placement at the BBC by attending a training course with the BBC Academy before joining BBC News teams \u2013 across TV, radio and online \u2013 which will provide her with the opportunity to gain skills and experience across BBC News platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKomla was a well-rounded journalist whose style, though authoritative, was also compassionate, empathetic and uplifting. His ability to give the facts comprehensively, and yet still be attuned to his audience, was something I admired and a skill I seek to emulate\u201d.Rubadiri said<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the Komla Dumor award was won by Uganda\u2019s Solomon Serwanjja. Others include Uganda’s Nancy Kacungira 2015, Nigeria\u2019s Didi Akinyelure and Amina Yuguda in 2016 and 2017 respectively, The 2018 winner was Kenya\u2019s Waihiga Mwaura.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
