The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has released a revised roadmap for the 2020-2021 election cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows changes made by the National Electoral Commision with regard to nomination dates for MPs, LC5 chairpersons and LC3 councillors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi released the new dates for the various elections while addressing journalists at the party headquarters yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party primaries for MPs will now take place on 4th September 2020 and not 10th September as was previously announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new date for parliamentary Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which include workers, PWDs, youth and older persons is 10th October 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
LC5 chairpersons, city lord mayors, city mayors, city directly elected councillors and city woman councillors will be elected on 11th September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party primaries for municipal mayors, city division mayors, municipal directly elected councillors and municipal women councillors will take place on 14th September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the LC3 chairpersons, town council mayors, LC3 councillors, municipal division chairpersons, subcounty directly elected councillors, sub county woman councillors, their elections will be held on 16th September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elections for the local government SIGs councillors will take place on the following dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
18th September 2020 is for SIG councillors at the subcounty level, 19th September for the SIG councillors at municipal level while 20th September is for the SIG councillors at the district level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tanga also talked of the newly created subcounties and town councils that were announced by the national electoral commission calling on those interested in these posts to pick forms immediately from their district headquarters and their elections will be held on 16th September 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the subcounty SIGs committees primaries will be on 6th september. For the municipality and city division SIGs committees their elections will be on 17th September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tanga called on all those nominated on the post of MPs, LC5 chairpersons and other posts to take note of the new dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, voting for the NRM top Central Executive Members (CEC) is on today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows successful completion of the two days compaigns that were broadcast on all major TV stations in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unlike before where the delegates conference would be held at Namboole, this 3rd National Conference was decentralised to about 30 interactive zones in line with COVID-19 guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the party secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba, voting by the national delegates will be held from 9am-3pm at their respective districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Each candidate will be entitled to two agents after voting, and counting of votes will be done by the District registrar in the presence of the agents, District NRM Chairperson and Administrative secretary,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The top positions that are currently up for elections are first national vice chairperson, the second national vice chairperson (female) and the six regional vice chairpersons.
