Local singer\u00a0 Fik Fameica original names \u00a0Shafik Walukagga and his producer\u00a0 Martin Musoke alias Artin Pro have\u00a0 been dragged to Highhcourt for allegedly demeaning women in their hit song\u00a0 “property\u201d .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A female lawyer ; MS. Prisidia Nagasha wants court to compel Fik Fameica and Artin to issue a public apology to all women and girls in the country for undermining thier rights by referring to them as property to be owned and eaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fameica and\u00a0\u00a0Artin Pro have been sued alongside the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)\u00a0 which is accused of\u00a0 failing to protect Ugandans\u00a0 from consuming\u00a0 harmful content as the “property ” song enjoys wide play in the media .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her law suit filed before the High Court, Nagasha is seeking for a court\u2019s declaration that the said song demeans, undermines and discriminates against women and girls in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She narrates that in 2018, Walukagga and Musoke sung, recorded and produced a song titled Property which has lyrics like my woman is my property, my woman is my chappati, my yoghurt, my bughatti among other references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The song\u00a0 not only equates women and girls to property worth purchasing and owning which sends a negative message to the public about the status and capacity of women in the society\u00a0 but\u00a0 also underscores the achievements attained\u00a0 by government thorough affirmative action” she contends<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aggrieved lawyer therefore seeks an order to have the contentious song withdrawn from all media platforms in the county. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is not the first time the song has come under criticism for undermining women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Quinn Abenakyo, the former Miss World Africa and youths under \u201cPlan Uganda\u201d previously called for the ban of the song for violating women and girls rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
