Uganda’s first Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali has blasted people who are calling for his retirement from active politics due to old age saying whatever he is doing for the country will be left behind for the youth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 81 year old legislator was speaking to journalists at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) headquarters in Kampala today after being nominated to run on the party ticket for the Adjuman West MP seat in the 2021 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that Ugandan youth ought to know that developed can be championed by leaders who already know the existing gaps and thus can best fix them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If you lay a trap, you must go back and check whether the animal has been trapped. If it’s not you change the strategy. A new person will not know where you layed the trap. If he’s not careful he\/she may even fall into it” said Gen. Ali<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added “To bring in someone new is an interruption since it is a big set back to settle cause a person who comes in doesn’t know where to start from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gen Ali said the young people should focus on developing themselves and getting ready to take on these responsibilities once the old guards leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“People talk of age, yes I’m old but I wasn’t born old, I was born young like you and one time you will also grow old. But before you reach my age, you must have achieved in life and your legacy must be clear” He emphasised <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The retired military officer’s comments come as Uganda joins the rest of the world to mark International Youth day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day is being marked under the theme \u2018\u2019Youth Engagement for Global Action\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
