Tension has gripped Isingiro South Constituency after a violent political clash broke out on Saturday, July 6, 2025, turning a peaceful campaign event into chaos. The incident happened along the Isingiro\u2013Kikagate road, where supporters of rival politicians met and soon turned on each other.<\/p>\n
What began as loud shouting and insults quickly escalated into stone-throwing and violence. According to eyewitnesses, the situation got out of hand when members from both sides began fighting in the middle of campaign activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was walking home when I saw a crowd gathering,\u201d said one local resident. \u201cWithin minutes, there was smoke, fire, and people running everywhere. Two motorcycles were set on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the clash, a vehicle and two motorcycles were burned, creating panic among residents and forcing many to flee the area. Police arrived quickly and managed to disperse the crowd before further damage occurred.<\/p>\n
District Police Commander ASP Julius Nuwagaba confirmed that at least 10 people had been arrested in connection with the violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve arrested 10 so far, and more arrests are expected,\u201d said Nuwagaba. \u201cInvestigations are ongoing. We call upon all political players and their supporters to maintain peace. Violence will not be tolerated during this campaign season.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also condemned the destruction of property and warned that anyone found guilty would face serious legal consequences.<\/p>\n
The Electoral Commission of Uganda also released a strong statement, reminding candidates and their supporters that violence during campaigns is illegal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe law is clear,\u201d the Commission said. \u201cWe are watching closely and will take firm action where necessary. Let every campaign be peaceful and lawful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Local leaders in Isingiro South have also spoken out, urging residents to stay calm and avoid being divided by politics. A local councillor emphasized the importance of unity:<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone has the right to support whoever they choose. Politics should not destroy friendships or our community peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the moment, the situation in Isingiro is calm, but police remain on high alert in case of further trouble.<\/p>\n
