The International Crimes Division of the High court has set 17th August 2020 as the Pre-trial date of the eight people who are accused of the brutal murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, was gunned down in March 2017 together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Wambewa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presiding Judge Duncan Gaswaga set the date after the Assistant DPP Lino Anguzu informed court of how they have disclosed 95% of Prosecution’s intended evidence to the Defence Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecution also informed court that it intends to amend charges against the accused persons on that date and also present its application on how the 30 witnesses in this case are going to be
protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the Pre-trial proceedings, prosecution discloses its intended
evidence against the suspects; for Court to determine whether that
evidence is sufficient enough to confirm charges against the accused
persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this case the accused persons Yusuf Mugerwa, Bruhan Balyejusa,
Josha Kyambadde , Jibril Kalyango , Yasin Nyanzi and Hassan Kasujja,
Abdul Rashid Mbaziira and Alamandhan Higenyi are indicted for murder, Terrorism and aggravated robbery which prosecution alleges were committed on 17th March 2017 at Kulambiro in Nakawa Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, their Lawyer Anthony Wameli says on 17th August 2020 he will also challenge the said charges and apply for the freedom of his clients basing on the torturous acts the police meted on them upon arrest; for which the High court awarded each of them 80 million shillings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six of the accused persons who are on bail were present in court, while the other two who are on remand at Luzira prison appeared via video conferencing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
