Students and teachers from Gayaza Church of Uganda Secondary School had a special opportunity today as they visited the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters. Their visit was a step into the real world of democracy and governance, aimed at helping them understand how elections work and how citizens play a role in shaping the future of their country.<\/p>\n
During the visit, they were warmly welcomed by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon. He took time to speak to the students and teachers about the mandate and responsibilities of the Electoral Commission. Justice Byabakama explained how the EC organizes and supervises elections to ensure they are free, fair, and peaceful. He also shared about the many important roles the EC plays in strengthening democracy in Uganda.<\/p>\n
More importantly, Justice Byabakama talked about the rights and responsibilities of every citizen. He reminded the students that although they may not be voters yet, they are future leaders and have a duty to learn and take part in nation-building. He encouraged them to stay informed, obey the law, and participate actively in community and national matters when they get the chance.<\/p>\n
The students were excited to learn from such a high-ranking official and asked many questions about how elections are prepared, how voters are registered, and how the EC ensures fairness in the process. Teachers praised the visit, saying it had helped bring the topics they teach in class to life.<\/p>\n
This visit was not only educational but also inspiring. It gave the students a better understanding of their country\u2019s democratic systems and showed them how they can be active, responsible citizens.
