The vision to build a grand new cathedral for the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Soroti Assembly has received a powerful boost, thanks to a high-energy fundraising event that united faith, community spirit, and leadership. Among the key figures who stood out during the event was David Calvin Echodu, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Eastern Uganda Vice Chairperson contender and Soroti City West MP aspirant.<\/p>\n
In a show of deep commitment to both the church and the people, Mr. Echodu, who served as the chief fundraiser and guest of honor, didn\u2019t just speak or donate\u2014he laced up his shoes and took part in the fundraising run held ahead of the main event. The run, organized to symbolize the journey of faith and determination toward building God’s house, saw enthusiastic participation from Christians, church leaders, youth, and community members.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not just about talking or giving\u2014it\u2019s about leading by example,\u201d Echodu said moments after crossing the finish line. \u201cThis church will not only be a place of worship but a pillar of community transformation for generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The proposed cathedral project is expected to cost about 3.5 billion Ugandan Shillings, a bold but worthy investment in the spiritual and social growth of Soroti. Speaking at the main fundraising function, Echodu thanked the NRM government for ensuring peace and stability in the Teso sub-region, which he said has laid the groundwork for such development initiatives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe gather today in peace because of the stability that has been delivered to this region. It is now our role to build and move forward,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Echodu emphasized that wealth creation and progress are no longer about what is found in the soil, but what is developed in the mind. \u201cWealth is created by brains, not just minerals. What we need now is a change in mindset,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n
He encouraged the people of Teso to take charge of their development, reminding them that lasting change starts from within. \u201cYes, support from others matters, but the greatest progress happens when we believe in ourselves and act boldly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
As part of his contribution, Echodu donated building kits worth 3 million shillings, an additional 30 million shillings in cash, and 1.5 million shillings toward the church\u2019s development fund.<\/p>\n
Bishop Mathew Omagor, the presiding pastor of PAG Soroti Assembly, praised Echodu for not only making generous donations but for fulfilling all his previous campaign promises to the church.<\/p>\n
\u201cHon. Echodu is more than a politician\u2014he is a servant leader. His support is sincere, consistent, and impactful,\u201d Bishop Omagor said.<\/p>\n
The Bishop likened the cathedral project to the Biblical story of Nehemiah, saying it was not about showmanship but legacy. \u201cThis is about building something that will stand the test of time. Generation A must lay the foundation for Generation B,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Echodu also spoke out against corruption and harmful traditional practices like witchcraft, urging Christians to use the gospel to transform society, not just for personal blessings. He called on the congregation to embody Christian values of unity, respect, and integrity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis cathedral will be more than a building. It will be a symbol of faith, hope, and the power of coming together,\u201d Echodu concluded.<\/p>\n
