Former Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura, has broken his silence on allegations linking him to some of Uganda\u2019s most shocking murders. In an exclusive interview with NBS TV, Kayihura firmly denied any involvement in the killings of senior prosecutor Joan Kagezi, several Muslim sheikhs, and former police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Felix Kaweesi.<\/p>\n
Kayihura said the accusations have caused him deep pain and frustration. He insisted he has never had any hand in the murder of innocent Ugandans. Instead, he revealed that a report by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) pointed to former senior police officer Nixon Agasirwe as being involved in the crimes. According to Kayihura, this report was shared with President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n
He commended President Museveni for his patience and leadership, saying the President never rushed to conclusions based on rumors. \u201cEven when people reported me to him, the President took time and didn\u2019t judge me unfairly,\u201d Kayihura noted.<\/p>\n
Further explaining his connection to Nixon, Kayihura said he found Nixon already working within the police\u2019s Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU). He claimed Nixon was already involved in questionable dealings before he, Kayihura, had any control over the situation. \u201cNixon was doing his dirty work long before I came into the picture,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Kayihura also addressed claims of personal conflict with the late Felix Kaweesi. He denied any grudge, describing Kaweesi as a colleague with whom he shared mutual respect. He also dismissed rumors of any hatred toward Muslims or Joan Kagezi, stating that he had always maintained friendly relations with them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat hurts me the most,\u201d Kayihura said emotionally, \u201cis how people keep accusing me of being behind the murders of fellow Ugandans. That is simply not true.\u201d<\/p>\n
His remarks come at a time when questions still linger over who was truly behind the targeted killings that shook the nation.
