The Ugandan journalism community is mourning the loss of one of its own, Justus Lyatuu, a dedicated and passionate journalist who passed away on Wednesday September 04, 2024 at Doctor’s Hospital, Mpererwe.

Lyatu was a Business Journalist at the Daily Monitor. He crossed back there last year from the Observer where he spent a few years. Lyatuu had earlier reported for the Daily Monitor.

He was a respected and accomplished journalist, known for his in-depth reporting and commitment to uncovering the truth.

Colleagues and friends describe him as a brilliant journalist who was was always informed. His dedication to his craft and his passion for storytelling inspired countless others in the industry.

“Justus was more than just a colleague; he was a friend and a mentor,” said Robert Kajjangu, a fellow journalist. “His passing leaves a gaping hole in our lives and in the world of journalism.”

He succumbed to ulcer relapse, his passing has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan media community.

“Justus’ death is a tremendous loss for our country and for journalism as a whole,” said Vincent Kisiriko, a fellow journalist. “He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on through his work.”

As the journalism community comes to terms with this tragic loss, tributes and condolences are pouring in from media houses and beyond.

His body is at the City Mortuary, from where it will be taken to Bugiri, Nambo B for burial. He will be laid to rest on Friday September 13, 2024 as the family awaits his mother and siblings who are abroad.

“They felt we would be overwhelmed for him to be buried in the presence of only a sister and their father”. A family member said.
