Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection to the murder of Emmanuel Tegu, a third year veterinary student of Makerere University.
According to Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the suspects are residents of Makerere University and are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Station pending interrogation.
“The suspects, whose identities will be disclosed after interrogation, are said to have participated in the mob action that led to the death of the student” Says Onyango
He added that there are other suspects who took off after receiving information of the death of the student, but said their teams are pursuing them.
Tegu, a third-year Veterinary was on June 28th 2020 attacked and badly beaten by a mob that allegedly mistook him for a thief.
After a tip-off, the police swung into action to his rescue, only that he had been badly beaten and bruised by the mob which left him unconscious.
Onyango says on arrival, police picked the student and rushed him to Mulago hospital, but sadly, he breathed his last on Saturday 4th July 2020.
The police mouthpiece earlier said they were investigating to find out the reason why the late was moving at night, at the time of the incident.
The police also dismissed rumors that the deceased could have been killed by the Local Defence Units (LDUs).
